The S.O.A.P. method is an easy, four-step method used to read, understand, and apply the Bible to your daily life.
The acronym stands for:
Write out the specific verse or short passage that stands out to you during your reading. Writing the scripture helps us slow down, pay close attention, and help remember the text.
Ask yourself what the passage is saying. Notice details like who is speaking, who the audience is, repeating words, or the historical context. It helps us understand the text.
Think about how the truth in these verses applies to your life right now. Ask God what changes you need to make, what attitude to adjust, or what action to take. It moves the Bible reading from head knowledge to real, personal life change.
Talk to God about what you just read, thank Him for His truth, and ask for the strength and wisdom to live it out.
S (Scripture): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
O (Observation): Paul reminds believers that worry should be replaced immediately with prayer and thankfulness. Peace comes from God's presence, not from changing circumstances.
A (Application): Today, when I feel stressed or worried about my to-do list, I will stop and turn those specific thoughts into short prayers instead of letting anxiety take over.
P (Prayer): "Lord, calm my heart today. Help me stop trying to control everything and give me Your peace when I feel overwhelmed."
